Things to do

The following are among the many attractions and activities in the area:

1) Dinas Mawddwy is located in the southern end of the Snowdonia National Park in the picturesque Dyfi Valley, surrounded by fine scenery.

2) There are three pubs close by, the closest one being only a three minute walk, all serving good pub food.

3) The main shopping towns of the area are Machynlleth and Dolgellau, which are about 10-15 miles away.

4) The area offers rural peace and tranquility and is a paradise for walkers, climbers, fishermen, birdwatchers and bikers. Nearby is Coed-y-Brenin Forest with its famous mountain bike trails.

5) Meirion Woollen Mill is a few minutes walk from the cottage. It is famous for its wide range of woollen and other traditional goods, including: rugs,  throws,  coats, waterproofs and fleece jackets, Pottery including the famous Portmeirion brand, sheepskins, and items crafted in slate.

Barmouth alongside the beautiful Mawddach Estuary. There are many panoramic walks in the surrounding hills.

Aberdovey with its lovely harbour and sandy beach, championship golf course and excellent restaurants.

Tal-y-llyn Lake beautifully situated at the foot of Cader Idris. The are many wonderful walks around the lake and a delightful restaurant close on the lake.

The Tal-y-llyn narrow guage steam railway runs between Tywyn and Abergnolwyn. Close on the railway are the Dolgoch falls.

For the more adventurous the Cregennan Lakes situated on the northernslopes of Cader Idris (892m summit), overlooking the surrounding mountains and the Mawddach Estuary.

The delightful town of Dolgellau.

The market town of Machynlleth. It has its market day every Wednesday. Many cycle routes start in Machynlleth and is part of the national cycle network (Sustrans).

Lake Vyrnwy and Bala – a spectacular drive over the highest mountain pass in Wales.

On the A487 is the Centre for Alternative Technology .

The coastal main line railway runs along from the Machynlleth via Barmouth, Harlique, Porthmadog, to Pwllheli.

The picturesque Lake Vyrnwy is situated just 15 miles away and has an RSPB centre, childrens activities, a nature reserve and good walks.
